PROJECT OVERVIEW

SCALE is an FCRA and ISO-certified NGO, established on January 9, 2002. Set up by experienced professionals, with the mission to provide quality of life to the marginalized sections of India, SCALE has successfully implemented several projects in the areas of environment, computer education and women empowerment.
Below is the synopsis of rural projects driven by SCALE
Solar cooperatives:

SCALE has presumably set up India’s first two solar cooperatives — Uttarayan Cooperative for Renewable Energy (UCRE), set up in Uttarakhand, and Uttarayan Cooperative for Renewable Energy and Environment (UCREE) in Uttar Pradesh. These solar cooperatives have lighted nearly 20000 rural homes in these two states.

Solar initiatives in border areas:

In its unique mission of solar lighting border villages, SCALE has donated solar lights to 40 villages, three ITBP bases on India-China border and 23 villages on India-Nepal border through Sashastra Seema Bal. In 2019-21.

CAPACITY BUILDING

SCALE has carried out more than 40 capacity building programs and trained over 700 unemployed youth in the manufacturing and repair of solar products. A majority of these trained youth are either in their own consulting business or employed in solar, electrical or electronic industry

SCALE’s innovative technology:

We are proud to mention that SCALE has developed to design and developed its own innovative solar products and technology.. It offers value for money to its users. SCALE has brought this technology to remote rural areas of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. It uses the best quality components towards the making of solar products.

Alambana, our self-help group:

SCALE has trained nearly 2500 women in tailoring. It has set up 8 self-help groups in Uttarakhand. Under the banner of Alambana, these women trained in tailoring are generating good income by stitching school uniforms, ladies suits and many other gift items. Today, these women are able to earn a decent living, by stitching for their village folks as well as by making school uniforms for SCALE’s Anganwadi initiative.

SCALE introduces school uniforms for Anganwadi Schools

SCALE has introduced school uniforms to Anganwadi schools in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. Nearly 5000 school uniforms with shoes & socks has already been donated to 160 Anganwadi schools. There has been a significant positive impact in their school attendance as well as enrolment of new children.

Smart learning for schools in rural areas

A key reason why children drop out from schools is their growing lack of interest in the school curriculum. Poor performance in class examinations lead to loss of confidence and fear of studies. As a result, parents too were getting convinced that pursuing further studies is a waste of time. From the point of view of a society, this is a huge loss of human resources.

There was no doubt that many of the school dropouts were intelligent and competent youngsters who could have completed high school education, given the right environment. Our projects instilled confidence in students by arousing interest in studies & computers played a crucial role in generating interest in subjects and making academics more exciting.

Creating an IT ecosystem: SCALE has tied up with Computer Shiksha (CS) to deliver computer education using Self Learning Videos developed in-house that act as trainers. For this, it has provided computers, free training to teachers, computer maintenance as well as comprehensive syllabus. SCALE is creating an ecosystem in schools to not only deliver computer literacy programs but also to create the right IT infrastructure that can be leveraged for scores of other programs. So far, it has 150 schools and 36,000 students are benefitting from this project.
It is proven beyond doubt that good education is the only route to a better future. Education driven by SCALE is more about knowledge, good culture, creativity, positive attitude and well-placed confidence. We hope that in times to come, all like-minded organizations and individuals work cohesively to build a knowledge-driven society.
